Speaking to Inforpress, Sónia Baptista, a resident of the area, said that with the rain this Wednesday, the section of road that collapsed on January 21, 2023, and which has not yet been fully rehabilitated, was left interdicted, but with some small interventions the passage for vehicles was opened, but that is not guaranteed because if more rain falls tonight the situation could be complicated.

By the way, he highlighted that the passage is improvised because even without rain, cars face several difficulties to go down and up from Fajã, with rain it is worse.

In view of this situation, Inforpress contacted the person responsible for the municipal sector of Civil Protection and Firefighters on Ilha Brava, António Lopes, who expressed his concern about the community of Fajã d´Água, reinforcing that his team was in the locality today in the morning, having come across some falling stones on the road, but which have already been removed.

According to the same source, the situation on that road is “quite worrying”, taking the opportunity to appeal to the Government and the Roads Institute to see what they can do with this road because it is a concern not only for the community, but also for the municipal services that are located worried at this time, in case something happens in this locality and they don't know how to arrive to help the population.

Lopes recalled that this is the only connection route, and there is also the maritime option by boat, but that would imply departing from the port of Furna or Tantum, which increased the time to provide assistance.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG) warned today that Cape Verde will be under the influence of a tropical wave today and Friday, the 18th, which should cause a “significant worsening of the weather”.

According to the same source, adverse conditions will be felt “with greater incidence” on the islands of Santiago, Fogo and Brava, in the Sotavento group, and on the islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão, in the Barlavento.
